Labor Day Folklife Celebration - Monday, September 1, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site, near Juliette.  Celebrate old-time labor with crafts and chores such as spinning yarn, blacksmithing, cooking on woodstoves and outdoors in kettles, barnyard animal care and more.  Jarrell Plantation was visited by part of Sherman’s army during its “March to the Sea.”  Admission $2.50 to $4.00.  Directions: Southbound I-75 to Exit #185, east on GA Hwy. 18, look for signs.  Northbound I-75 to Exit #171, north on U.S. Hwy. 23, then east on GA Hwy. 18, look for signs.  478-986-5172, http://gastateparks.org/info/jarrell.
Battle of Tunnel Hill Civil War Reenactment - Saturday & Sunday, September 6 & 7, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, 288 Clisby Austin Road, Tunnel Hill.  Get ready for battle to unfold before your eyes, taking you back to 1864 when North and South fought on these very grounds.  The reenactment takes place on the grounds of the historic Clisby Austin House, and also includes Southern foods, sutler tents, encampments and an awesome experience!  Admission: Adults $5.00, children 6-12, $3.00, which includes the famous 1,477 foot Western and Atlantic Railroad tunnel built in 1850, plus the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center.  Directions: I-75, Exit #336, U.S. Hwy. 41 north 4-1/2 miles, right on Oak Street in Tunnel Hill; or I-75, Exit #339, U.S. Hwy. 41 south 4 miles, left on Oak Street.  706-876-1571, www.tunnelhillheritagecenter.com.
Mountain Marketplace Heritage Festival - Saturday & Sunday, September 6 & 7, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mountain Life Museum, 99 School Street, Blairsville.  Come enjoy a day of Appalachian arts, crafts, & music.  Crafts on display and for sale include handmade brooms, pottery, candles, soaps, wood crafts, garden products, honey and more.  Heritage activities include bluegrass music, gospel singing, gold panning, basket weaving, a Civil War camp, quilting/spinning, wood carving and more.  Free admission.  Directions: I-575 north and GA Hwy. 515 to Blairsville.  The Mountain Life Museum is located one block south of downtown Blairsville on U.S. Hwy. 129.  706-745-5493, www.unioncountyhistory.org.
Liberty on the Border: A Civil War Journey In Time Exhibit - January 26 through September 7, Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, 2829 Cherokee Street, Kennesaw.  Explore the physical, cultural, ideological borders that contributed to the Civil War through computer programs and interactive artifact reproductions.  By looking at the way borders were drawn and perceived before, during, and after the War, visitors develop a deeper comprehension of the different and sometimes contentious meanings of personal “liberty.” Admission fee.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #273, turn west on Wade Green Road (which becomes Cherokee Street).  The museum is on the right hand side; parking is directly across the street on the left.  770-427-2117, http://southernmuseum.org/.
“The National Park That Almost Wasn’t” - Monday, September 8, 7:00 pm , Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Visitors Center .  Dr. Keith Bohannon, history professor at the University of West Georgia , will discuss the attempt to make the Atlanta Campaign National Park Service site at Peachtree Creek instead of its present site at Kennesaw Mountain .  Admission is free.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #269, west on Barrett Parkway for approximately 3 miles, then left onto Old Highway 41.  Turn right at the next traffic light, Stilesboro Road , and the visitors center is on the left.  770-427-4686, www.nps.gov/kemo/.
Sacred Sounds at the Ringgold Depot - Friday, September 12, 7:30 pm, Historic Ringgold Depot, 155 Depot Street, Ringgold.  Gospel music featuring professional entertainers and groups.  Admission: $5.00.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #348, north on Ga. Kennesaw Mountain Trails Workday - Saturday, September 13, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.  The Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club helps maintain the trails at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.  There are no membership requirements other than a willingness to work.  Trail building experience not necessary.  Meet at the park maintenance area behind the Visitor Center.  The Park provides all necessary tools and safety equipment.  770-427-4686, www.nps.gov/kemo/index.htm.
The Ringgold Opry - Saturday, September 13, 7:00 pm, Historic Ringgold Depot, 155 Depot Street, Ringgold.  An evening of acoustic bluegrass and country music.  Professionals and amateurs alike join together in jam sessions and concerts.  Free admission.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #348, north on Ga. Landscape of Slavery: The Plantation in American Art - August 23 through October 19, Morris Museum of Art, 1 Tenth Street, Suite 320, Augusta.  This exhibition examines depictions of plantation structures, plantation views, and related slave imagery as a special part of the American landscape tradition.  Admission fee.  Directions: I-20 to Exit #200 (Riverwatch Parkway), turn left and follow River Watch Parkway into downtown Augusta, which turns into Jones Street, left onto 10th Street, cross Reynolds Street and turn left onto Tatnall Street; museum parking is the second entrance on the right.  706-724-7501, www.themorris.org/.
