| Ol’ Time Fourth at Jarrell Plantation - Friday, July 4, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, Jarrell
Plantation State Historic Site, near Juliette.
A noon reading of the Declaration of Independence is
followed by 3-legged race, sack race, egg toss, tug-of-war and old
fashioned Independence Day fun. Demonstrations
of traditional crafts and skills are ongoing throughout the day. Jarrell Plantation was visited by part of Sherman’s army
during its “March to the Sea.”

| Celebrate America at Fort Pulaski - Saturday & Sunday, July 5 & 6, 10:00 am to
4:00 pm, Fort Pulaski National Monument, Savannah. Help celebrate the nations’ birthday with a special
patriotic living history event at Fort Pulaski.
Highlights include cannon firings, patriotic music
performed by Savannah’s Sinfonietta Brass Players, and a
recreation of a historic 1860s baseball game.

Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, 1002 Victory Drive,

This program utilizes the museums interior interpretive
spaces to bring actual events from the Civil War to life.
Past programs have included the attack on the Water Witch,
Blockade Running from Havana, a report on the mission of the HL
Hunley, Medical demonstrations, the Battle of Memphis, the
surrender of the CSS Tennessee, and the capture of the CSS

battles to surrender, shortages and trials, through the visit of
Union General William Tecumseh Sherman, the story is always
engaging. Like many American families, the Gordon’s had kith and kin
fighting on both sides of the conflict.

| School of the Sailor Summer Camp - Monday through Friday, July 14 to 18, 9:00 am to 1:00
pm, National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, 1002 Victory
Drive, Columbus. Children
ages 9 to 13 are invited to participate in the summer camp
program. Students will be instructed on various aspects of sailor life
to include cutlass drill, musket drill, signal flags, cannon
drill, boat drill, and much more.
Registration: $125.00 per child, which includes a sailor
shirt, hat, and lunch daily.

Junior Ranger Day Camp and Cookout - Tuesday through Saturday, July 15 through 19, 10:00

will present a nature/history/wildlife camp for children ages 6-12. Register by July 13 at 5:00 pm. A badge ceremony and cookout for parents and children that
enrolled in the Junior Ranger Camp will be held July 19 from

Bartow Soldiers Summer Camp - July 21 through 25, 9:00
am to 12:00 noon, Bartow History Center, 13 North Wall Street,
Cartersville. Boys, get ready to enjoy a week of activities based on
what life was like in Bartow County during the Civil War. We will
participate in craft projects, taste Civil War era food, reenact
camp life, and learn the music and games of the time.

A Civil War Journey In Time Exhibit - January 26 through September 7, Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History,
2829 Cherokee Street, Kennesaw.
Explore the physical, cultural, ideological borders that
contributed to the Civil War through computer programs and
interactive artifact reproductions. By
looking at the way borders were drawn and perceived before,
during, and after the War, visitors develop a deeper comprehension
of the different and sometimes contentious meanings of personal
“liberty.” Admission fee.
