Black Civil War Soldiers Exhibit - February 1 through 28, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Jefferson Davis Memorial State Historic Site, Irwinville.  Each February, this exhibit has artifacts added and the new display is available all month.  The exhibit highlights the role of African-Americans in the Civil War.  Admission: $1.75 to $3.00 per person.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #78, go east 14 miles on Georgia Hwy. 32 to Irwinville.  Turn left on Jeff Davis Park Road and proceed one mile to the site (on left). 229-831-2335, http://gastateparks.org/info/jeffd/.

Romantic Memories of Yesterday - Mondays through Fridays, February 2 through 27, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Stately Oaks Plantation, 100 Carriage Lane, Jonesboro.  All month tours at this antebellum plantation home will feature the romantic customs of the Victorian Age.  Admission: Adults $12.00, Seniors $9.00, Children $6.00.  Directions: I-75, Exit 233, south 4 miles to Jonesboro.  770-473-0197, www.historicaljonesboro.org.

Courage of Conviction: The African-American Soldier - February 3 through March 31, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Memorial Hall & Museum, Highway 78 East, Stone Mountain Park.  Exhibit featuring eleven paintings by Ted Ellis, depicting life as a black soldier from the Revolutionary War to World War II.  Highlighted are Civil War soldiers fighting for both the North and the South, Buffalo soldiers who helped settle the West, soldiers who served in World Wars I and II as cooks, infantrymen and the Tuskegee Airmen.  The exhibit also includes photographs, artifacts and archival film footage from 1776 through World War II on exceptional Georgians in America’s military history.  Admission: $9.00.  Directions: I-285 to Exit #39, east on U.S. Hwy. 78.  770-498-5690, www.stonemountainpark.com.

New Manchester History Hike - Saturdays, February 7, 14, 21 & 28, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Sweetwater State Park, 1750 Mount Vernon Road, Lithia Springs.  This easy-to-moderate mile-long hike will lead us to the impressive ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill, focusing on the history of Sweetwater Creek valley.  Other highlights of this tour will include seeing the lovely whitewater rapids.  Great photo opportunities!  Admission: $1.00 to $2.00 per person, plus $3.00 parking.  Directions: Take I-20 west of Atlanta to Exit #44 (Thornton Road), turn south and go 1/4 mile.  Turn right on Blairs Bridge Road, go 2 miles and turn left on Mount Vernon Road.  770-732-5871, http://gastateparks.org/info/sweetwater/.

“A Walk Through Time” History Hike - Saturday, February 21, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sweetwater State Park, 1750 Mount Vernon Road, Lithia Springs.  Celebrate the rich history of the scenic Sweetwater Valley on this guided, six-hour, five-mile hike of moderate/strenuous difficulty. West African Influence on a Southern Rice Plantation - Saturday, February 21, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site, 5556 U.S. Highway 17 North, Brunswick.  Sierra Leon native Braima Moiwai will prepare an authentic African rice dish on a three-stone fire for everyone to sample.  Afterwards, learn about the west African  influence on the people of coastal Georgia with music, folktales, and a slide presentation.  Admission: $2.50 to $5.00.  Directions: I-95 to Exit #42, then 1 mile east to U.S. Highway 17.  912-264-7333, http://gastateparks.org/info/hofwyl/.

Mommy & Me Children’s Program: Camping Out Civil War Style - Thursday, February 26, 10:00 am, Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, 2829 Cherokee Street, Kennesaw.  Program designed for pre-school children ages 3 to 5 and their parents.  Civil War soldiers spent a lot of time setting up camp.  What are some of the resources they needed?  Participants will get to make their own canteens!  Admission fee.  Directions: I-75 to Exit #273, turn west on Wade Green Road (which becomes Cherokee Street).  The museum is on the right hand side; parking is directly across the street on the left.  770-427-2117, http://www.southernmuseum.org/
